Now it’s Johannes Roberts’ turn to have a go at a live-action adaptation of the classic survival horror series of games.
Exclusive first look at Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City
As a franchise, the Resident Evil live-action movies are some of the best-selling video game movies ever. However, not a single one of the films are highly regarded by the gaming community. We didn’t include any in our round-up of the best video game movies ever released. Will Roberts’ take on Resident Evil make the list? Only time will tell. But, if these initial images are any indication, he’s off to a good start. The first photos of the Resident Evil live-action movie reboot come courtesy of IGN. The main highlight of the gallery is Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy and Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield. In addition to this, the photos also include everyone’s first look at Tom Hopper’s Albert Wesker, as well as Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine and Nathan Dales as Brad Vickers. The set reveal also includes new intel straight from an interview with the film’s director, Johannes Roberts. According to Roberts, Welcome to Raccoon City is based on the first two Resident Evil games and will explore how Raccoon City became such a big deal in the series mythos. He also mentioned that his film is not going to be the same as the Milla Jovovich-led franchise. He added that he wanted to “go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience” that he claims to have had when he first played the games many years ago. Johannes also went into detail just how much work went into making sure that the movie was “more in line with the Resident Evil game world.” He says that Capcom provided them the blueprints of the Spencer Mansion and Raccoon Police Station, which made it easier to create a perfect live-action recreation of the games. He claims that Capcom was “so happy and excited” after seeing the fruits of their labor. With that said, only time will tell if the upcoming Resident Evil live-action movie reboot is going to live up to expectations. Welcome to Raccoon City has already faced its fair share of challenges. The film was originally slated sometime in September this year. Sony later decided to push back the film’s release date by a couple of months to November 24, which many speculate was because Sony didn’t want the movie to compete with the MCU’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
