After much anticipation, Netflix confirmed back in March that the live-action Resident Evil show will premiere on July 14 before dropping its first trailer in May. With only a few weeks to go, the streaming giant dropped new footage at this year’s Netflix Geeked Week. Although we knew already that Resident Evil will feature the undead as well as the unloving man’s best friend, the latest trailer showed that it will also have gargantuan spiders and what appears to be a giant caterpillar. Netflix’s Resident Evil series will follow Ella Balinska’s Jade Wesker as she tries to survive in a world fraught with peril and danger. As the daughter of Lance Reddick’s Albert Wesker, the show’s protagonist will also have to face her past while also putting the pieces together to find out what happened to her sister. In addition to Reddick and Balinska, the debut season of Resident Evil will also feature Paolo Nunez, Siena Agudong, Tamara Smart, and Adeline Rudolph, among others. Resident Evil is one of the most recognizable games in and out of the video game industry. Capcom’s seminal survival horror franchise has been a huge commercial success ever since the first game came out in the late 90s. It’s one of the few games to have serviceable live-action adaptations, all thanks to the Milla Jovovich-led movies that have grossed over $1.2 billion at the global box office across six movies. Having said that, we’re curious to find out how fans and casual audiences will react to the upcoming series. Judging from what we have seen so far, Netflix is taking the established formula to create a new story. The derivative material is a huge risk, but it could pay off in what could be the best adaptation yet of one of gaming’s most beloved franchises. Speaking of Resident Evil, the long-rumored Resident Evil 4 Remake is true. Sony confirmed at the State of Play showcase that Capcom is remaking one of the most influential titles of all time for next-gen consoles with exclusive PSVR2 content. We also found out in the same event that Resident Evil Village is headed to the PSVR2.
