Even though Kennedy was being interviewed by Empire Online about The Book of Boba Fett, to hype up the show ahead of its December premiere, she also segued into making comments about some other upcoming Star Wars productions, with Obi-Wan Kenobi among them. It’s been known for a good long while that Hayden Christiansen, who played Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader in episodes 2 and 3, will be reprising his role in Obi-Wan Kenobi - we just don’t know to what extent or capacity, since a lot of Vader screen-time seems like an odd fit for the premise - but now we also know that Vader will be sharing scenes with Obi-Wan outright. Kennedy recounted the actors working together again for the first time in years on set, getting back into their characters from the prequel movies. Apparently, the experience and reunion was an emotional one for both of them. It makes sense, considering how central and prominent their roles were, and how close the characters of Anakin and Obi-Wan grew, going from master and apprentice to brothers in arms. McGregor’s depiction of Obi-Wan has become legendary among Star Wars fans, with this version of the character being popular both in his own right and as the basis of some of the best known Star Wars memes out there. Many fans are highly anticipating seeing the on-screen reunion between him and Christiansen’s Vader, who only briefly played the villainous version of the character. The biggest question that remains is what capacity will Vader fill in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show? Him knowing about Obi-Wan’s exile on Tatooine would contradict A New Hope, meaning they could only possibly meet elsewhere, if at all - some fans speculate that Obi-Wan and Vader won’t truly meet face to face, and only share scenes involving flashbacks or visions. Additionally, many believe that Vader will serve the role of a ’looming threat’ overshadowing Obi-Wan’s exile on Tatooine. Past stories bridging the gap between episodes 3 and 4 have shown that Obi-Wan did occasionally break his exile and go on various missions and adventures to other planets, but these instances were depicted in Legends content that is no longer canon. Nonetheless, writers might have drawn inspiration, and the two old friends would have a fateful meeting on one such excursion. It’s likely too much to hope that Disney would recanonize Ferus Olin, but one can hope in a homage at least. There’s still no information about when Obi-Wan Kenobi will air, but the Star War schedule of Disney+ is filled to the brim with content fans can be excited for. The Book of Boba Fett is a month away from premiere, with the third season of The Mandalorian and a slew of other shows on the way, some focusing on established characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi, while others venture into new eras like The Acolyte.
