The brainchild of George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, along with Colony’s Ryan J. Condal, House of the Dragon is a fantasy drama that’s set some 200 years before Game of Thrones with House Targaryen at the tail end of their fiery and incestuous reign. As per HBO’s first House of the Dragon poster, the Game of Thrones prequel will premiere day and date on its cable network and streaming platform, HBO Max, on August 21. In addition to dropping the first poster for House of the Dragon, HBO also released a series of individual images showcasing the star-studded cast in all their character’s respective glory for the prequel.
— House of the Dragon (@HouseofDragon) March 30, 2022 The official House of the Dragon release date reveal comes just a little over a week after Martin teased the announcement. The self-admitted “gardener” style writer has made headlines recently following the success of Elden Ring, which he celebrated with a blog post, and for mentioning that he’s part of several different Game of Thrones spin-offs outside of House of the Dragon, much to the celebration of fans. Going back to House of the Dragon, it’s taken quite a while for the upcoming HBO fantasy drama to get here. The Paddy Considine-led live action adaptation began production last year before getting its first teaser trailer in October. Given Martin’s direct involvement in the prequel series, fans are hoping that House of the Dragon will stick to his vision more as opposed to what D.B. Weiss and David Benioff did with the later seasons of Game of Thrones. Speaking of spin-offs, Better Call Saul, another off-shoot from a record-breaking television series, Breaking Bad, is coming to an end later this year. As previously confirmed, Better Call Saul’s sixth season will be split into two parts, with the first one arriving on April 18. The latest Better Call Saul trailer teases a denouement that will come completely out of the left field.
