The live-action adaptation of Sony’s best-selling video game series has been in production since July last year but we have had only one official look so far - until now. Speaking at the recently-concluded Summer Game Fest, Neil Druckmann, who was the creative director of the video games and who will serve as the show’s co-creator as well as executive producer, shared everyone’s first proper peek at Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, respectively. Unlike the first official The Last of Us TV show image, the second one is a lot more revealing.

In addition to the image reveal, Druckmann also explained the involvement of Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson in the live-action adaptation, confirming that the appearance of the voice actors of Joel and Ellie, respectively, are not limited to mere cameos. Unfortunately, Druckmann could not give audiences what they really needed - a proper release date for The Last of Us TV show. Earlier reports suggested that we could be watching Ellie and Joel’s story unfold right in the comfort of our homes by 2023, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it took longer than that. The good news is that the production is set to end in a few months. If nothing else, this would mean that we’ll get to see a proper teaser trailer of the show soon. In the meantime, fans of Naughty Dog’s award-winning narrative action-adventure game don’t have to feel too sad. Druckmann was at this year’s Summer Game Fest to announce The Last of Us Part 1, a remake of the 2013 title that’s headed to the PS5 in September, with a PC version following suit. Druckmann also confirmed that the next new installment in The Last of Us franchise is a multiplayer game.
