It praised the series’ creators, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, for taking viewers on a mind-bending journey over Westworld’s four seasons and expressed gratitude for their work. Westworld debuted on HBO in 2016 to impressive ratings from critics and audiences alike. The series set several records, including the most viewership for any HBO original series’ debut season. Unfortunately, it could not retain its audience with viewership dropping to a record low during the recent fourth season. Notwithstanding, diehard fans of the series will be greatly disappointed especially since some were hoping for a spinoff as evidenced by a conversation between Joy and ComicBook.com. Westworld’s cancelation is hardly a surprise. Following the company’s merger, it has gone on a cancelation spree that has seen films like Batgirl put on the chopping block. According to reports, Warner Bros. Discovery’s new CEO David Zaslav is determined to save costs. As a result, films and television series that are considered less than profitable are being ruthlessly cut. Westworld seems to be a victim of this decision. In a joint statement, the husband-and-wife duo of Nolan and Joy had this to say: Westworld is a sci-fi TV series about a dystopian future based on a 1973 film of the same name written and directed by Michael Crichton. During its four-season run, Westworld was nominated for 54 Emmy nominations with nine wins. It’s not clear if the cancelation of Westworld spells the end for potential spin-offs.
