According to several sources with direct knowledge of Ubisoft’s plans, we can report that a big games showcase event from the French publisher has been in the works for some time. To avoid game announcements being drowned out by the competition, the event was meant to go ahead before this year’s rumored E3. However, recent world events seemingly put those plans on hold. We understand that a total of 20 games are lined up and ready for some form of an announcement in the near future - whether at the delayed event or otherwise - from brand new game reveals, to development updates, release dates, and trailers. It’s worth highlighting that you’ll find the details of several previously unannounced Ubisoft games below. Also, much like its peers these days, Ubisoft is no stranger to delaying games, so take the release dates with a pinch of salt.
Skull & Bones
Ubisoft recently opened up applications for public testing of Skull & Bones, and CFO Frederick Duguet is “very happy” with its progress. Skull & Bones has been no stranger to development troubles these past several years. However, it seems Ubisoft finally understands exactly what it wants the title to be. In September 2021, I reported on some key details for Skull & Bones that Ubisoft would DMCA me for (thanks Ubi), and by all accounts, it seems like those details are still correct. The title will be “multiplayer first” and focuses on ship combat, with currently no combat on land. Developer: Ubisoft Montreal Release Date: April 2022 - March 2023
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Not many details concerning Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora have been revealed of late. However, Ubisoft is keen to show off more of the title, and a new trailer has been created. Massive Entertainment recently started sending out playtest invites to external QA, with these playtests beginning this week. While this likely indicates that the game is on track for its scheduled release, we’ll have more details on the game in the coming months. Developer: Massive Entertainment Release Date: April 2022 - March 2023
The Division Heartland
We already covered many key details for The Division Heartland here, and according to those who have played the game, it feels “almost ready” to release. It has been suggested that the free-to-play title could launch in the coming months, although a definite release timeframe has not been specified. The Division Heartland will likely be the first of three free-to-play FPS titles to release from Ubisoft. Developer: Red Storm Entertainment Release Date: April 2022 - March 2023 (likely mid-2022)
Immortals Fenyx Rising sequel
Ubisoft was apparently pleased with the performance of 2020’s Immortals Fenyx Rising, and I’ve been informed that a sequel is in development. The title is in its pre-production stage and presumably in development by Ubisoft Quebec, who is also working on a new Assassin’s Creed title. Recently, the studio has been hiring talent for the title, but no other details have been provided. Developer: Ubisoft Quebec (assumed) Release Date: Unknown
Assassin’s Creed Rift
Assassin’s Creed Rift was first reported in February and aims to fill in a thin near-term release schedule. According to Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, the title will not be a fully-fledged Assassin’s Creed title and is scheduled to release towards the end of 2022 or 2023. Our own sources suggest that the first half of 2023 is more likely, simply due to the intended release schedule of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, which is the next main-line title, but won’t arrive until at least 2024-2025. The title was initially intended as DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. However, it has since morphed into its own standalone game. Developer: Ubisoft Montreal Release Date: Q4 2022 - Q2 2023
Assassin’s Creed Infinity
Revealed in July 2021, Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be Ubisoft’s most ambitious Assassin’s Creed title to date. It will tie all the future AC titles together in a live-service title and is being developed by several Ubisoft studios, including Montreal and Quebec. Animus will reportedly play a huge role in this new “hub” for the Assassin’s Creed series. With it, players can be transported into any time setting they like, with additional settings and content to be added throughout the years to come. Assassin’s Creed Infinity seems to have more questions than answers and the moment, with the title still being somewhat in early production. Ubisoft Montreal is still hiring for numerous “Online Services” positions and Ubisoft Quebec is currently hiring several key roles for the Assassin’s Creed brand, including a Project Lead Programmer and Associate Producer. Developer: Ubisoft Montreal & Ubisoft Quebec Release Date: TBA (expected 2024-2025)
Ghost Recon Frontline
Ghost Recon Frontline had its closed access tests earlier this year, with many details nonetheless surfacing online. The title received harsh criticism, with players stating that it offers nothing new in the Battle Royale genre. Currently, there’s much uncertainty about the role of NFTs in the game. However, our sources state that Ghost Recon Frontline will be Ubisoft’s primary vehicle for NFT usage and that it plans to integrate them on a much bigger scale than anything previously. Because of Ubisoft’s plans, it’s believed that Ghost Recon Frontline could be the furthest away from release out of the three free-to-play FPS titles. Developer: Ubisoft Bucharest Release Date: Unknown
XDefiant
XDefiant has seen significant changes since it was first revealed in August 2021, most notably dropping the Tom Clancy brand. The game is currently in QA and Ubisoft recently opened up applications for their new XDefinant Insider Sessions, which started on March 15th. XDefiant is the third FPS title in development by Ubisoft that will be free-to-play. The game is headed by ex-Call of Duty Executive Producer Mark Rubin and has been developed in collaboration with several Call of Duty content creators. XDefiant still seems like it’s still a while away from release. Although Ubisoft hasn’t given an official release date as of yet, I wouldn’t be expecting this game until the latter end of 2022, possibly the beginning of 2023. Developer: Ubisoft San Francisco Release Date: Unknown
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake
Not much has been said about the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, but the game is still in active development, despite rumors and concerns to the contrary. The studio has been hard at work on the title since its reveal in September 2020, with sources suggesting that the game needed to be overhauled following fan disappointment. It’s not entirely clear when Ubisoft will show off more because it is possibly waiting to release another Prince of Persia game first before doing so. Developer: Ubisoft Pune, Ubisoft Mumbai Release Date: Unknown
Prince of Persia (unknown title)
A second Prince of Persia title is reportedly in the works at Ubisoft, with Ubisoft Montpellier being involved in the project. The game was described as taking “inspiration from Ori” and will be a 2.5D game. Additional details on this title were slim, but I hope to be able to reveal more shortly. Nonetheless, it does seem that Ubisoft is actively working on a second Prince of Persia title. Developer: Ubisoft Montpellier, likely others Release Date: Unknown
The Crew 3 (Project Orlando)
The next title for The Crew was leaked last year as assumed DLC for The Crew 2. Currently codenamed Project Orlando, it will be a brand new game featuring a new driving engine and other overhauls. The title has been in development for some time and could be announced later this year. Developer: Ubisoft Ivory Tower Release Date: Unknown
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
The sequel to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was first announced at last year’s E3 event in June 2021. Not many additional details have been given about the game, apart from the combat being notably different this time around, with the title being a “new take on the tactical genre,” according to game director Davide Soliani. It appears that the development of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is going well and that it will release within the 2022 window. Developer: Ubisoft Milian Release Date: 2022
Roller Champions
Believe it or not, Roller Champions has still not been given a release date, but that is expected to change in the next couple of months. The title was very quietly delayed again via its official Discord server. From what I’ve been told, it’s hard to see why. Roller Champions is apparently ready for launch, and the quiet delay could have been a result of pushing the entire planned Ubisoft event back. However, that’s speculation. It’s anticipated that this game will release in the coming months and we should hear more about it shortly. Developer: Ubisoft Montreal Release Date: 2022
Beyond Good and Evil 2
Beyond Good and Evil 2 seems like a game that will never release, and although the same has been said about Skull & Bones in the past, it’s hard not to make a direct comparison. The title has suffered from many problems these past couple of years, with some comments from developers to me in November 2021 suggesting that the game could be canned. Despite these comments, it appears Beyond Good and Evil 2 now lies in the Ubisoft category of “we’ve spent too much and can’t give up now.” I wouldn’t be expecting to hear much about BG&E2 for a while. Developer: Ubisoft Montpellier Release Date: TBA
Splinter Cell Remake
In October 2021, I leaked via VGC that Ubisoft had greenlit a new Splinter Cell title, which would then be confirmed by Ubisoft a short while later. The Splinter Cell Remake is still in very early production, and although it probably won’t release until 2024 at the earliest, we could see some form of CGI trailer to help boost talent interest for the project if Ubisoft thinks that is required. Developer: Ubisoft Toronto Release Date: TBA (Expected 2024-2025)
The Division Mobile
The Division mobile was first announced in May 2021 and has slipped under the radar lately. However, Ubisoft could be setting the game up for release in the near future. The roadmap for The Division shows that the mobile game will release after Heartland and the new The Division 2 DLC, so it is the next logical announcement to come from Ubisoft after the aforementioned DLC. Ubisoft has been planning to market a Ubisoft mobile title too and I believe that it’s probably this title, although there are other mobile games in development at the publisher.
Other Mobile Games
I have been told that there are at least two more mobile games in development by Ubisoft and that they are “major IPs.” One of these titles could be a new Assassin’s Creed mobile game, but I’m wondering if the likes of South Park would be a good fit here too. Just Dance 2023, Assassin’s Creed VR, Splinter Cell VR, Settlers, and Rocksmith+ are all titles that could be announced soon. After all, it’s not a Ubisoft Forward event without Just Dance! Ubisoft’s drive to get into the VR space with Assassin’s Creed VR and Splinter Cell VR, and Sony’s recent announcement of the PSVR2, makes me think these games could get some form of reveal in the near future too, be that at a Ubisoft event or Sony event. Ubisoft clearly has a ton of exciting games in the pipeline and we look forward to hearing more about its upcoming games showcase soon. UPDATE: @ZhugeEX has reached out and pointed us to this tweet which confirms that Ubisoft is working on a new Assassin’s Creed mobile title with Tencent Games.
