Throughout Season 1, the game will get five new weapons in total. Those of you who have been playing Call of Duty for a while now and dabbled in previous installments utilizing the season system will be familiar with how these are rolled out - some will be available right off the bat, others will drop throughout the span of the season. The full crop this season includes three guns and two melee weapons. Typically it’s the firearms that carry any measure of risk to upset the current meta, though so far based on Vanguard’s track record, some bugs may well do that before any intentional stats do - nonetheless, the new weapons are still worth keeping an eye on. The guns include the Cooper Carbine assault rifle that trades rate of fire for a more powerful hit, making it sound like a menace in steady hands that can make shots count. Joining it is the Gorenko Anti-Tank Rifle in the sniper class, but as an anti-material rifle is definitely going to be a specialized piece of hardware. Expected to kick hard enough to one-shot enemies even with body shots, the massive recoil and low rate of fire will make it a highly situational gun. Coming later in the season is the Welgun SMG, but the developers are mostly keeping its characteristics under wraps until it’s ready for prime time. As for melee weapons, you’ll get to slice up your adversaries who get too close with the Katana, or bludgeon them to death with the Sawtooth, a makeshift war club lined with shark teeth - talk about overkill. Of course, with these Season content drops there is more to look forward to than just weapons - maps, game modes, some story content, operators and all sorts of cosmetic and customization items are also being added to the game. Call of Duty: Vanguard may have been off to a rough start, but the developers aren’t letting that put brakes on the content schedule for multiplayer. Between new guns, the Caldera map and more, now would be a good time to revisit Vanguard if you dropped out. Call of Duty: Season 1 started on the 8th of December, and is sticking around for a while yet.
