People Can Fly and Square Enix’s latest title is described as a “looter shooter”, which naturally means that there is tons of gear for you to pick up and loot from all the fallen enemies. However, while the game insists that it’s trying to create its own genre, the looting system feels very familiar. Anyone who’s ever played games like Destiny, Diablo, and even Borderlands, will find that the increasing rarity and power of the gear in Outriders works in a similar manner. As a matter of fact, the rarity system in Outriders goes from Common up to Legendary. With that said, as familiar as the core gameplay of Outriders is, the game has still managed to separate itself and create its own identity. This means that there are a couple of things in Outriders that you might not know about, even if you’re a hardcore shooter fan. Scroll down below to find out more about how to make the most out of your time in the free-to-play Outriders demo.

Do Take Your Time

Now, just because it’s a demo, that doesn’t mean that you should try and rush through everything. We know. We can’t blame you for making the most out of your time here. After all, most demos available today have time limits. However, Outriders is different. It’s a throwback to the old-school demos of yesteryears. Outriders is basically a limited version of the full game. It’s kind of like the first disc of a four-disc game. While the full title will have far more content than the demo, there should be enough meat in the Outriders demo to keep players satiated until its full release and, if it’s not already clear by now, there is no time limit. So, feel free to play the game until your heart’s content.

Play In Higher World Tiers As Much As You Can

The looting mechanic might have been carried over from other popular titles, but the difficulty system in Outriders works differently. Outriders has what it refers to as a World Tier system where enemies get progressively more difficult the higher the World Tier is. This also means that you’ll get better weapons and gear the more often that you fight against enemies in higher World Tiers. As of the moment, players can only access World Tier 5, so this is your best shot if you want to get Legendary Weapons. The Outriders wiki claims that playing in World Tier 5 increases your chances of getting Legendary drops by as much as 25 percent. Meanwhile, the bonus drops down considerably to just 10 percent if you play in World Tier 4. Although the same wiki doesn’t go into further detail as to how low the base drop of Legendary gear is, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that playing in World Tier 5 is ideal if you want to collect the best loot that the game has to offer.

You Can Replay Older Missions Via Story Points

Legendary gear is understandably hard to get, but one trick to make it a bit easier is to replay older missions by choosing a Story Point. You can take advantage of this point via the online component and lobby of the game. Here, you can choose to play through an older mission and receive gear as a reward for completing the mission. You can do this over and over again. This is a mechanic that was purposely added to the game to make repeating missions rewarding for all players. Because all the gear you get will carry over, you can keep on grinding missions you’ve already completed to get Legendary gear. Of course, this process, while straightforward, can take a bit of time. That is intentional and is to deter players from getting their hands on Legendary gear too easily, since you’ll have to reload and replay missions over and over again.

Farm As Much And As Often As You Can

The way that the mod system in Outriders works is that it makes even older low-level Legendary gear useful later on. This is because you can dismantle the earlier weapons that you obtain and still retain the mods that you used, so that you can socket them to weapons and other kinds of gear that you get later on in the game. So, yes, there is a point to farm as much and as often as you can right now even though the game is still in its demo phase. Later on, you’ll be able to make full use of all the mods that you get right now.

Take Advantage of the Terra Infirma Mission

People Can Fly really did their homework. They’ve added safeguards to prevent the game from being abused quite easily. However, despite their efforts, there are still ways to farm for Legendary gear without having to go through entire missions over and over again. Case in point, the Terra Firma mission. You see, in Outriders, there exist powerful enemies known as Captains that have a higher chance of dropping Legendary items. However, what makes Terra Infirma special is that it has a captain that’s relatively easy to take down and draw away from a crowd. Now, why is this important? Because you can keep on farming that single Captain repeatedly until it drops the Legendary gear you want. All you need to do is to draw the Captain away from the enemy grunts, kill the Captain, and check the loot. But, if it doesn’t work, you can let yourself get killed so that you can respawn and try again, with the Captain waiting for you by his lonesome. We know, we know. It’s a bit grindy and tedious. But, hey, the best gear never comes easy. Not to mention, it’s much easier to keep on replaying Story Points and killing a single Captain as opposed to playing through an entire mission over and over again.

Where Can I Play The Outriders Demo?

The Outriders demo went live first back on February 25 and will run indefinitely. This means that it will continue to run well beyond the official release date of the full game, which was delayed to April 1, 2021 from its initial late 2020 release date.
